And the oscar goes to........

Tonight is the Academy Awards. This will be the first time that Tim and I will sit down and watch it. We are lucky that this season the condo we rented is right across the street from a movie theater and we have seen every movie nominated except Atonement. We both agree, the best movie we saw was Old Country for Old Men. Our second best, Michael Clayton and then Juno. I didn't think that There will be Blood was all that good. It was too long and I think boring. The worst movie we saw was Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Please save your money that was terrible, how many times can you watch people get their throats cut and blood gushing all over the place....

For best actor, I think that should go to Daniel Day Lewis. I think he did an incredible job in There will be blood, even though I didn't like the movie. My second pick for best actor would go to George Clooney in Michael Clayton.

I only saw two movies that were nominated for best actress, Juno and Away from her. I think Julie Christie should win for her performance in Away from her.

Best supporting male actor has to go to Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men, but sentiment might carry the day for Hal Holbrook, Into the Wild. This is another great movie to see.

Best supporting actress, I only saw one of the nominations and that was Tilda Swinton,in Michael Clayton. I thought she did a great job but I don't know how the other actresses did.

Here are all the nominations with my predictions highlighted.

Best picture: "Atonement," "Juno," "Michael Clayton," "No Country for Old Men," "There Will Be Blood."

Best director: Julian Schnabel, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"; Jason Reitman, "Juno"; Tony Gilroy, "Michael Clayton"; Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, "No Country for Old Men"; Paul Thomas Anderson, "There Will Be Blood."

Best actor: George Clooney, "Michael Clayton"; Daniel Day-Lewis, "There Will Be Blood"; Johnny Depp, "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"; Tommy Lee Jones, "In the Valley of Elah"; Viggo Mortensen, "Eastern Promises."

Best actress: Cate Blanchett, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"; Julie Christie, "Away From Her"; Marion Cotillard, "La Vie en Rose"; Laura Linney, "The Savages"; Ellen Page, "Juno."

Best supporting actor: Casey Affleck, "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"; Javier Bardem, "No Country for Old Men"; Hal Holbrook, "Into the Wild"; Philip Seymour Hoffman, " Charlie Wilson's War"; Tom Wilkinson, "Michael Clayton."

Best supporting actress: Cate Blanchett, "I'm Not There"; Ruby Dee, "American Gangster"; Saoirse Ronan, "Atonement"; Amy Ryan, "Gone Baby Gone"; Tilda Swinton, "Michael Clayton." Can't make a prediction since I only saw on of the nominees.

Jackie - I was wondering if you were affected by the earthquake. I had heard about it on the news but did not hear the location. Happy to know that you are well!
