Tips for Mountain Lion Encounters

Nevada has seen an increase in mountain lions coming down from the mountains and roaming local neighborhoods looking for water and food. Last week a mountain lion was caught in an area not far from our condo. State wildlife officials reported 9 sighting last year. Although mountain lion attacks on humans are rare, dogs and cats make easy prey for the predators.

If you see a mountain lion ( this would be good advice if you are in Utah, Nevada, Colorado or other mountain lion states or if you're one of those extreme 100 mile runners who run around mountains in the middle of the night):

• Don't run. It triggers the predator instinct.
• Make yourself look as big as possible.
• Make a lot of noise.
• If you are attacked, try to stay on your feet and fight back.
